ZAYN drops emotional ballad, “Good Years”

He’s just wishing for better days.

Out next Friday (finally) is ZAYN’s sophomore album, Icarus Falls, and he’s got a brand-new song to mark the announcement.

Titled “Good Years,” the track is a powerful ballad produced by MYKL and Khaled Rohaim. It deals with the singer’s anxiety issues and his years in the limelight. Looking back at his One Direction days, ZAYN wonders out loud if he made the right life decision. “I close my eyes and see a crowd of a thousand tears / I pray to God I didn’t waste all my good years,” he belts over a piano-driven melody.

Elsewhere on the song, ZAYN details a longstanding dispute: “What the hell were we fighting for? / ’Cause now the whole damn world will know / That we’re too numb and just too dumb to change the story / Neither one, one of us wants to say we’re sorry.”

Could this be about his former bandmates? Maybe. But if so, it doesn’t sound like ZAYN’s looking for a reunion anytime soon.
