PJ Morton has shared a video for “Don’t Let Go,” a track off his latest album Paul.
The stark yet heartfelt video focuses on a young woman despondent on her bed, grappling with suicidal thoughts. But instead of reaching for the pistol by her bedside, she picks up the phone instead. While speaking on the phone with a loved one, she takes a look at a family photo and breaks into tears. Mustering her courage, she then proceeds to put the firearm away in a drawer.
“‘Don’t Let Go’ I wrote as a modern hymn,” Morton said in a statement. “Growing up in church we sang hymns to help us feel better and encourage us. I realize that today so many people are going through things. ‘Don’t Let Go’ is just to encourage them that they aren’t alone and that they’re necessary.”
“Don’t Let Go” is the third Paul track to get the visual treatment, following “Ready” and the JoJo-assisted “Say So.”
