2021 is off to a good start for Jhené Aiko fans: she’s just unveiled a live performance of a medley of tracks from her third album, Chilombo.
The medley features many of Aiko’s trademarks, including the soothing sounds of singing bowls, wind chimes and harp melodies, which also featured in her NPR Tiny Desk performance in October last year.
The new 15-minute performance kicked off with an unplugged rendition of “Triggered (freestyle),” along with other Chilombo cuts “Born Tired,” “Summer 2020,” “10K Hours” and “Magic Hour.” Midway through the set, she also worked in “WAYS,” a fan favorite cut from her 2014 record Souled Out, as well as the sound meditation “Trigger Protection Mantra.”
This latest offering keeps up Aiko’s momentum from a busy 2020. Last year, besides releasing Chilombo in March and its deluxe edition in July, she also appeared on several high-profile collaborations. These included Big Sean’s “Body Language” alongside Ty Dolla $ign, Saweetie’s “Back to the Streets,” and Ty Dolla $ign’s “By Yourself” alongside Mustard. She has also released videos for Chilombo cuts “Born Tired,” “One Way St,” “Speak,” and “BS.”
