Jamila Woods has delivered a beautiful performance of “Sula (Paperback)” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
The Chicago artist sang the delicate cut from her sophomore album Legacy! Legacy! under coral-hued lights, surrounded by flowers and her backing band plus string section.
Besides “Sula (Paperback),” which was inspired by the novelist Toni Morrison, Woods’ 2019 record also included the songs “Eartha” and “Baldwin”—tributes to Eartha Kitt and James Baldwin, respectively.
