Cautious Clay has joined forces with Chicago rapper Saba for his dreamy new single, “Strange Love,” which received a cutesy music video.
The Nintendo-inspired video, which was directed and animated by Alex Futtersak, sees a CGI version of Clay shopping for orange toy hearts. He slowly gets hypnotized, and starts filling his shopping car with them. As they begin to pile up, though, the hearts merge together and create a monster that Clay has to destroy.
The predicament in the video appears to be a metaphor about self-love and relationships, which is underscored by Clay’s verses. “You making me think I’m lost / I don’t always gotta be the boss / Burning silence just us two / Black and white so tried and true,” he sings.
“Strange Love” arrives ahead of the singer’s debut album, Deadpan Love. The effort is due June 25 and will follow Clay’s EP from earlier this year, Wildfire.
