Tink has just shared her latest EP A Gift and a Curse.
True to its title, the seven-track record delivers heartbreak and supplication in equal measure. Opener “Silent Nite” is a smooth, maudlin take on the holiday staple on which Tink laments that “It’s gonna be a silent night / No one here to hold me tight.” “Bottom Bitch” subsequently has her do a complete one-eighty back to her hip hop roots, which she then tempers with R&B sensibilities on “Motives.”
The ironically laid-back “Rush,” however, is where her rich harmonies and dizzying vocal runs really shine atop a waltzy beat. The EP ends strong with the reflective “Lessons,” where she sings about how she’s grown from a painful past relationship.
Speaking about the album, Tink explained: “After a break-up, we always look at the situation like a curse. But in reality, sometimes a break-up is a Gift.”
This latest offering is a follow-up to Valentine’s Day album Hopeless Romantic and her 2019 project Voicemails. Earlier this year, she also shared a visual for Hopeless Romantic cut “Cut it Out.”
