The Weeknd recruits Rosalía for “Blinding Lights” remix

A transcendent collaboration.

The Weeknd has released a remix of “Blinding Lights” by Spanish pop star Rosalía.

This is the third official remix of “Blinding Lights,” following takes by Chromatics and Major Lazer. Rosalía kicks open the rework with lines in Spanish and English, and harmonizes with The Weeknd on the pre-chorus. She also supplies a sultry new coda for the track.

“Blinding Lights,” which went viral on TikTok earlier this year, topped Spotify’s 2020 list of most-streamed songs in the world with nearly 1.6 billion streams. The Weeknd was also Spotify’s fifth most-streamed artist in the world.

That streaming achievement came after The Weeknd was completely shut out for nominations at the 2021 Grammys for his album After Hours. The snub led The Weeknd to slam the awards ceremony as “corrupt,” kicking off a media storm that led Drake, Halsey, Nicki Minaj and other artists to weigh in on both The Weeknd’s absence from the 2021 nominations and the Recording Academy at large.
