T-Pain flips a classic with Kehlani on “I Like Dat”

A spiritual sequel to “Buy U A Drank.”

T-Pain has dropped a new song with Kehlani, “I Like Dat.”

Released on May 14, the track is a female take on T-Pain’s classic “Buy U A Drank.” Over bouncy production and Teddy’s signature Auto-Tuned crooning, Kehlani’s verses subvert the 2007 anthem’s original narrative, showing the woman in the song is more than capable of paying for her own drink.

“She don’t want the drink, she want the rent paid / She don’t pay for nothin’, she just get paid,” they sing together on the song’s chorus.

In a statement, T-Pain praised his collaborator. “Kehlani has been one of the best to work with, real talk,” he said, as reported by Pitchfork.

Kehlani was equally as excited about the collaboration. On Twitter, she gushed about the track: “woke up out my sleep to say i really have a song wit t pain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this bitch Buy You A Drank Part 2!!!! what is my life!!!!!!!!!!”

T-Pain’s most recent release was last year’s inspiring protest track, “Get Up,” proceeds of which he donated to criminal justice reform. Meanwhile, Kehlani provided guest features this year on a track by Lil Durk and a remix for Pink Sweat$.
