August 08 has returned with his third EP, Emotional Cuh.
The seven-track release opens with “Theatrical Hood N***a,” a spoken word intro that sets the tone and theme for the rest of the introspective EP. The minute-long track features a voice message from a person who recalled meeting someone nicknamed “Emotional Cuh.”
“Good guys and bad guys kinda look the same from a distance. Especially when their faces are covered up,” the person says. “There was one person in particular that they called Emotional Cuh, and he was a sad motherfucker.”
The EP then quickly plunges into a series of moody anthems: “Bussdown Your Soul” with Barney Bones hits out at haters, “Surburbia” laments life in a middle-class society, while “Hobosexual” depicts a relationship gone bad.
But on the YNG WeBB-assisted closer “21,” August shrugs off all his worries and reminds himself to be thankful. “They said I’ll never make it to 21,” he sings, “Now I’m 20-something / And I’m alive, I’m alive.”
