Raveena celebrates her “Mama” in heartwarming video

An ode to all immigrant mothers.

New York-based Indian-American singer Raveena has released a touching video for her latest single, “Mama.”

Directed by Danica Kleinknecht, the intimate visual follows the singer and her family through the decades, using home footage of her mother’s wedding and Raveena as a toddler. The clip also features loving scenes of first and second generation immigrants with their families.

“Obviously it’s a song about my mom and my relationship with her, but I kind of wanted to look more deeply into the unique relationship we have as a first-generation immigrant,” Raveena told Vogue. “My own family comes from a lot of trauma—genocide in India—and they then came to Queens, so it was kind of telling her story.”

“Mama” is Raveena’s first release of the year. The single follows a string of singles in 2018, including tracks like “Temptation” and “Honey.” She will finally release her debut album, Lucid, later this year.
