Queen Naija releases new song, “War Cry”

She’s got some powerhouse vocals.

Queen Naija recently wrapped up a 33-city North American tour. And to celebrate, she’s released a brand-new single, titled “War Cry.”

The track opens with a dramatic gospel piano before Naija enters with her powerhouse vocals, declaring her faith in God and expressing her worries about the problems in the world. The powerful song also delves into the mistakes that people make, the will to overcome them and the strive to do better. “Devil you can’t have my soul,” she belts on the pre-chorus. “I belong to God and I’m fighting you off / With the power of the Holy Ghost.”

In an emotional Instagram post, Naija revealed that she was initially nervous about releasing “War Cry” to the world. “Not because I’m ashamed of God,” she wrote. “But because I know the judgment will come. I know I don’t fully represent a full-blown Christian. Right now, I’ve been through a divorce, now pregnant with child unmarried. My single ‘Medicine’ talks about getting revenge, and I never wanted to send a double message.

“But God is still working on me, he knows my weaknesses and struggles I need help with, and I just want y’all to still look beyond my faults and see and hear the message. We are in the last days. And God is showing us the signs, though we may not feel ready yet, I ask God to continue to work on us all.”
