NIKI has continued the rollout for her upcoming debut album, Moonchild, with a carefree new single titled “Selene.”
While the album’s first offering “Switchblade” symbolized her naïve optimism as an immigrant to the United States, “Selene” is about “pure sensuality and femininity,” the Indonesian artist told Pop Inquirer. “I wanted to create a song specifically about the Goddess of the Moon who possesses Moonchild for a brief moment of naiveté and recklessness.”
On the funky song, the 88rising crooner sings about embracing her wild side while under the moon goddess’ “trance.” “She got me possessed / Now, I’m looking to get hasty / And I just want your body pressed against me / Take me down to lift me high,” she sings.
Moonchild, expected to arrive later this year, is the follow-up to NIKI’s Wanna Take This Downtown? and Zephyr EPs. Last year, she contributed two solo songs to 88rising’s Head in the Clouds II compilation: “Indigo” and “La La Love You.”
