Nao has shared the new single “Messy Love” from her upcoming third (and currently untitled) album.
The British singer tackles themes of independence and heartbreak on the track, as she croons about leaving behind a tumultuous relationship.
“So I’m saying goodbye, I’m saying goodbye / I won’t even change my mind / Not even this time,” she sings, “’Cause no one wants fool’s love / That kind of messy love, love.”
The single follows Nao’s collabs with Adekunle Gold and Lianne La Havas, and marks her first solo release since 2018. On Instagram, she said that her new album—the follow-up to her 2016 debut For All We Know and 2018 follow-up Saturn—will be dropping soon.
“I can officially say that it is a wrap—all the songs are officially done. And, in my humble opinion, all the songs are sick,” the Grammy-nominated artist said. “I think it sounds really good. And if you love ‘Messy Love,’ I think that’s a good indication of what’s to come.”
Earlier this month, Nao also appeared in Serpentwithfeet’s music video for their collab “Heart Storm.” Listen to her new song, “Messy Love,” below and stay tuned for more details about her upcoming third album:
