Moses Sumney announces new EP, drops new song

“Rank and File” is one of three songs on the EP.

Moses Sumney’s upcoming EP, Black in Deep Red, 2014, is on its way. Along with the announcement, the California-based singer dropped a brand-new song off the record.

“Rank and File” is political from the get-go. The track opens with a recorded protest speech to set the stage: “They in soldier mode, they in toy soldier mode right now. They can’t move they hands, they sticks. Cuz they a bunch of cowards.”

It’s a powerful and soulful battle cry that’s inspired by Sumney’s experience participating in a demonstration. “Now I don’t care what I’ve been told,” he chants on the hook, referencing the lyrics of the military cadence.
