Miguel has unveiled a startling video for his 2019 single, “Funeral,” which arrived just in time for Halloween.
The singer enlisted Savage x Fenty creative director Philippa Price and choreographer Nina McNeely for the visual, which features him as a sparkly demon surrounded by a troupe of equally glamorous, but also creepy dancers.
“I’ve been exploring darker tones and themes for some time; this song whets the imagination for what’s to come,” Miguel said in a press release. “I can’t believe it’s been nearly a year since we filmed this, way before we had any notion of how different our world would be just a couple short months later.”
“This is just the beginning of a new, lush chapter in my artistry,” he added. “What I loved most about working with Philippa is how easily she and Nina took my vision to the next level. They are both beautifully insane and I love that.”
Part of this “newchapter,” Miguel revealed, will be a follow-up to his 2012 Art Dealer Chic trilogy EPs. The California native said fans can expect music from the upcoming project in the new year. It’s currently unknown if the Funeral EP, which the singer announced in 2019, is still in the works.
“I took a long hiatus from the business of music to reassess my objective as a creator,” he explained. “The Art Dealer Chic EPs have always been reserved for freedom, self-curation and honest expression without the influence of music industry politics. I’m excited to introduce my fans to a very different world in my creative expression, and that begins with ADC 4.”
