On Sunday night, the who’s who of the R&B and hip hop worlds brought their A-game to the BET Awards 2019. The awards ceremony played host to show-stopping performances by Mary J Blige, Fantasia, Kiana Ledé and others.
Fantasia served major vocals during her passionate performance of her latest single, “Enough,” while HER collaborated with YBN Cordae on a stirring rendition of “Lord is Coming.” Gospel musician Kirk Franklin brought the crowd to church during “Love Theory,” with the help of singers Jonathan McReynolds, Erica Campbell and Kelly Price. Kiana Ledé and Lucky Daye also made appearances with shortened versions of “Ex” and “Roll Some Mo,” respectively.
But the true highlight of the night was a 20-minute medley from Blige, who received this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award. The career-spanning medley included hits like 1994’s “I’m Goin’ Down,” 2001’s “No More Drama” and 2007’s “Just Fine,” to name a few. The R&B legend also brought Lil Kim on stage for a rendition of their 1997 collab, “I Can Love You,” before Method Man joined Blige for their iconic duet, “I’ll Be There for You/You’re All I Need to Get By.”
