Mariah Carey reworks “Oh Santa!” with Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson

This truly is all we want for Christmas.

Mariah Carey has treated fans to an early Christmas present: an updated rendition of “Oh Santa!” off her 2010 LP Merry Christmas II You, featuring Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson.

The accompanying clip stars the trio dressed to the nines, showcasing their vocal chops against an extravagant backdrop and surrounded by an entourage of dancing elves. “They say it’s unrealistic / But I believe in you, Saint Nick / So grant this wish for me right quick / Santa won’t you come and make him mine this Christmas night?” they sing on the track. The track ends literally on a high note, with Ari and Mimi harmonizing sky-high whistle-tones for a rousing finale.

“How do I see these vocals having different textures, what are they? Because originally, I was blending with myself, which that’s kind of one of my favorite things, but it was cool to be able to work with the different vocal textures and play around with it and reimagine it,” Carey told Billboard of the experience working with Grande and Hudson. “And visually, in the special, it really does feel like a girl group moment. I think we all had a good time with it. That was the fun part about it.”

The release is a fitting way to wind down a busy year for Carey, who marked the 30th anniversary of her debut album and musical career this year. In August, she dropped “Save the Day,” cut from a compilation of previously unreleased material The Rarities which dropped in October.

That same month, Grande released her highly anticipated sixth studio album Positions, going on to appear on Thundercat’s live performance of “Them Changes” and drop a video for Positions cut “34+35” in November. On the other hand, Hudson performed amid a star-studded roster of Black artists at the BET Awards in June, and will portray Aretha Franklin in her 2021 biopic, Respect.

“Oh Santa!” is part of Carey’s Magical Christmas Special, which premiered December 4 on AppleTV+. Enjoy the video for “Oh Santa!” below:
