Mariah Carey’s been dropping singles at a steady clip in the lead-up to her new album, Caution, which is out November 16. This time, she’s released “A No No,” yet another kiss-off to follow the equally sassy “GTFO.”
A co-write with Priscilla Renea, who’s also written for Rihanna and Fifth Harmony, “A No No” samples Lil’ Kim’s 1997 remix of “Crush on You” featuring Lil’ Cease and Notorious BIG, as Vulture points out. Keep an ear out for Biggie going “He’s a slut, he’s a hoe, he’s a freak / Got a different girl every day of the week”—classic, biting lines perfect for a song shaming someone whose misbehavior, Carey says, “ain’t even worthy of a slick reply.”
Besides the new song, Mimi also dropped the tracklist to Caution, revealing some intriguing features. Besides Ty Dolla $ign, who sings on “The Distance,” Blood Orange and Slick Rick contribute to “Giving Me Life,” while up-and-coming rapper Gunna guests on “Stay Long Love You.”
