Mahalia rewinds the R&B clock with her new single, “Whenever You’re Ready.”

The Mack Jamieson- and Two Inch Punch-produced track samples Montell Jordan’s 1999 hit, “Get it on Tonite.” The colorful visual, however, sees Mahalia serving early 2000s vibes as she sings confidently about letting her lover go—knowing they’ll be back.

“Whenever you’re ready, ready, ready, ready / Come back to my loving arms / No, I’m not begging on my knees / Holding on for you to stay / If you gotta go then you gotta go / I gotta let you be on your way,” she croons.

In a statement, Mahalia explained why she chose to sample Jordan’s hit: “I remember the first time hearing Montell Jordan’s ‘Get It On Tonite’ in Save the Last Dance when I was a kid; it’s been a song that has made me wanna dance ever since, and sampling it in ‘Whenever You’re Ready’ is really special to me.”

“I had so much fun writing [‘Whenever You’re Ready] with MNEK and Two Inch Punch,” she continued. “I was going through a breakup at the time and really wanted to capture this part of that process. It’s my new summer jam. I hope everyone loves it as much as I do.”

“Whenever You’re Ready” follow Mahalia’s February collaboration with Rico Nasty, “Jealous.” In April, she joined Chiiild on the song “Awake.” Watch the video for her latest release below.
