Ibeyi are back with “Recurring Dream,” their first single in more than two years.
The French-Cuban sister duo Naomi and Lisa-Kaindé Diaz wrote and recorded the song for the newly released film, How to Stop a Recurring Dream. The drama marks the directorial debut of Ed Morris, whom Ibeyi have collaborated with on several music videos in the past.
“Working with [Ed] has always been special to me,” the duo wrote on Instagram. “Our favorite Ibeyi music videos were created by his beautiful brain. Us getting baptized in a tank of water in ‘River’ or giving birth to each other in ‘Deathless.’ I always felt that he understood our music and knew how to translate it into powerful images.”
“So, when he told us about his movie, How to Stop A Recurring Dream, I knew I wanted to write a song for it that would hopefully serve his vision,” they added. “I am so proud of him and his beautiful movie! How wonderful it is to find someone with who [sic] creating is always such a wonderful adventure.”
Ibeyi’s last album was 2017’s Ash. Listen to “Recurring Dream” below:
