Kali Uchis’ debut studio album Isolation, which arrived in April, proved that she’s one R&B act to watch. Now, she’s returned with an acoustic version of the album’s standout track, “Dead to Me,” to remind everyone why she should definitely stay on your radar.
Compared to the original, which is a bouncy and upbeat FU anthem, the stripped-down rendition of the song is somber and packs more raw emotion. On the reworked track, the Colombian-American singer replaces the funk-inspired synths and drum beats with a dreamy piano and harp arrangement. “Why can’t you see you’re dead to me? / Just let it be, you’re dead to me,” the 24-year-old croons on the bridge.
