South London singer Joy Crookes has dropped a new track, “Since I Left You.” It follows her Reminiscence EP, which she released earlier this year.
“Freedom don’t come for free / I guess it cost you and me,” Crookes sings on this vulnerable, piano-led song (which is in fact still a demo).
The 20-year-old, who’s been compared to Amy Winehouse and Lauryn Hill, told Vogue that being honest in her lyrics is a “personal challenge.” She added, “I don’t do it for anyone but myself. I put a lot of pressure on myself to reveal so much. But there are some songs that reveal things to me.”
