Jorja Smith has shared “Addicted,” her first single for 2021.
It follows a run of songs Smith released in 2020 that include “By Any Means” and “Kiss Me in the Morning.” “Addicted” balances hypnotic electronic elements with a disjointed beat to deliver a sense of unease that mirrors its somber lyrics.
According to a statement released by Smith, “Addicted” is about “focusing on wanting the full attention of someone who’s not giving enough (or any) when they should be.”
Smith’s new single arrived with a lighthearted music video co-directed and filmed by the singer on her webcam. The British artist appears in a range of outfits and settings as she sings her playful single.
An accompanying press release indicates that “Addicted” is a prelude to the new music Smith plans on releasing in the coming year. Smith’s debut album Lost & Found dropped in 2018. It featured tracks such as “Goodbyes,” “The One” and “On Your Own.”
