Joji wants to go “Slow Dancing in the Dark”

Rejoice, dark Joji is back.

Summer’s over, and that only means one thing: new Joji music. And just like he promised at the end of his light-hearted “Peach Jam” video, the New York-based crooner has returned to his emo ways with “Slow Dancing in the Dark.”

Described by Joji as a haunting “power ballad,” the track details an unrequited romance. “Don’t follow me, you’ll end up in my arms / You have made up your mind / I don’t need more signs,” the singer laments.

The song is accompanied by an equally gloomy visual directed by Jared Hogan. In it, a heartbroken Joji saunters down a dimly lit street before it’s revealed that the 88rising member’s no ordinary man. He’s a faun that’s been shot in the back with an arrow, and as the clip progresses things get even more grim and bloody. In the final sequence, we see Joji laying on the dancefloor in a pool of red.

Joji has also announced the title of his forthcoming debut album. BALLADS 1 will arrive sometime later this year on 88rising, although no official release date has been confirmed.
