Joji returns with sophomore album, ‘Nectar’

The singer executive-produced the entire record.

Nectar, Joji’s second studio album, is finally out now.

The 18-track record features previously released songs “Daylight,” “Gimmie Love” and “Sanctuary.” It also includes collaborations with Omar Apollo, Lil Yachty, Rei Brown and Yves Tumor. Rising New Zealand pop star BENEE appears on “Afterthought,” which she helped co-write. All the songs on Nectar were executive produced and arranged by Joji himself, making it his most ambitious record to date.

The new album continues Joji’s recurring themes of melancholy and despair. Opener “Ew” questions the idea of love while “Mr Hollywood” looks at a relationship between a celebrity and their secret lover. But there are also more unusually upbeat moments too, showcased on songs like “NITROUS” and “Your Man.”

Nectar follows Joji’s debut album Ballads 1, which arrived in 2018. Earlier this month, the 88rising singer teamed up with SahBabii for “Gates to the Sun,” their song for the Pollen x Spotify Singles series.
