But don’t get it twisted: It isn’t a diss track.

Jhené Aiko is back with her first new release of 2019, “Triggered (Freestyle).”

Over melodic piano chords, the singer reflects on a past relationship and admits that she feels just a little bit bitter over the break-up. “Who am I kiddin’? Knew from the beginning / You’d ruin everything, you do it every time / You are my enemy, you are no friend of mind, muhfucker,” she sings. The track was released alongside cathartic video where Aiko sings into the distance and lets out her emotions.

“‘Triggered’ was a moment, a moment that for me has passed. It is new to you because [you’re] just now hearing it, but for me… it’s something I moved on from the moment I expressed it.” Aiko tweeted.

She made it clear in a second tweet that “Triggered” isn’t a diss track. Instead, it was “a moment of talking shit out of frustration and passion. [It] was a moment of exaggerated expression when I was feeling lost and weak. No one is to be blamed or bashed for how I was feeling in that moment.”

“Triggered (Freestyle)” is Aiko’s first release since last December’s “Wasted Love Freestyle.” Watch the video for her new song below:
