Jessie Ware goes disco on new album ‘What’s Your Pleasure?’

Step into the British singer’s dancefloor fantasy.

Turn down the lights and get out the mirror ball: Jessie Ware has released her fourth studio album, What’s Your Pleasure?.

Ware has been building up to the record for a while now, hinting at its disco direction in 2018 with the non-album single “Overtime.” She put out the swooning album cut “Adore You” in 2019 and announced What’s Your Pleasure? in February, releasing “Spotlight” and then “Save a Kiss” in May. The 12-track album was produced by Simian Mobile Disco’s James Ford.

What’s Your Pleasure? comes three years after the British singer’s last record, Glasshouse. That album had not sold as well as Ware’s previous releases, and a poorly planned US tour in support of Glasshouse further dented the singer’s finances. Shortly after that, Ware and her mother started the podcast Table Manners, which became an unexpected success—and helped stimulate Ware’s creativity as a musician again.

“I needed to feel creative again, because I felt like it was all turning far too business,” she told the New York Times. “And that’s ugly—as soon as that happens, you don’t make the right music. So thank God I had the podcast, which was actually becoming a business. It meant I could take more liberties creatively with the music. It’s amazing how it unleashed me.”
