Georgia Anne Muldrow, Declaime drop “Protect Yourself”/“PAL” video

Two cuts from the ‘Black Love & War’ album they released as G&D.

Georgia Anne Muldrow and Declaime—aka Dudley Perkins—have shared a new music video for “Protect Yourself” and “PAL.” Both songs are taken from their album Black Love & War, released last month as G&D, the couple’s musical project.

The video opens with “Protect Yourself,” which soundtracks a harrowing scene of Perkins being manhandled by a policeman during a traffic stop. After this tense sequence, though, “PAL”—whose title stands for “Post-Apocalyptic Love”—suffuses the clip with dreamy color and a peaceful, funk-filled charm. We also eventually see the outcome of G&D’s encounter with the police.

“I want folks to feel pumped listening to Black Love & War,” Muldrow shared in a statement about their record. “I want it to help them on their journey to fearlessness. I hope these songs help them release that magic, or makes their day more understandable.” Perkins added that “this is the music that raises the vibration. We’re pushing each other for the betterment of the planet. We’ve gotta heal our people right now.”
