Ella Mai shades Jacquees on Twitter over “Trip” remix, he claps back

This is an R&Beef.

Ella Mai forgives but she doesn’t forget: On Tuesday, the UK songstress subtly shaded Jacquees on Twitter, reigniting their beef from 2018.

“I’d be so embarrassed if someone brung me on stage and the only thing I could sing was someone else’s song because nobody knew my actual music,” she wrote. “Poor thing.”

Although she didn’t name any names, plenty of fans speculated it was directed at Jacquees, who recently performed his unofficial remix of Mai’s hit single, “Trip,” at Tory Lanez’s show in London’s O2 arena.

To refresh your memory on the 2018 drama, last year Mai’s team at 10 Summers Records forced the self-proclaimed “king of R&B” to remove his “quemix” of the song from YouTube and SoundCloud. The label, founded by producer Mustard, claimed that Jacquees was trying to “monetize content” that didn’t belong to him. “No one steals from 10 Summers,” Mustard wrote.

Jacquees didn’t stay quiet, though. In response to Mai’s recent tweet, the “Bed” singer claimed in an Instagram comment that he and Mustard had already settled the issue beforehand, and wished the English singer “much success.” He also quashed the notion that he was irrelevant by adding that he’s always released chart-smashers.

Jumping onto the ’Gram to defend his friend, Lanez asserted that Jacquees himself hates performing the “Trip” remix. “My n***a ain’t even wanna perform the remix,” he wrote. “But I put him on the spot. Cuz I figured we was in London at the O2, 30,000 in the stands and bunch of kids was asking for the REMIX.”

Dreezy, Jacquees’ girlfriend, also chimed in on social media, telling Mai to “humble yourself.”
