Ciara has released a new video for her latest single, “Rooted” featuring Ester Dean.
The powerful visual was filmed days before the singer gave birth to her third child, Win. In the clip, the singer proudly shows off her baby bump as a myriad of talented dancers execute masterful choreography. Ciara’s two older children, Sienna and Future, also make appearances in the clip.
“‘Rooted’ is a song that celebrates Black joy. It celebrates our uniqueness and strength,” Ciara explained in a press statement. “To all my Black boys and Black girls, my Black kings and Black queens, this song is for you.”
In behind-the-scenes footage posted on her Instagram, Ciara revealed that she had been nearing labor during parts of the “Rooted” clip’s filming.
“I was so proud of the process because I shot the video two weeks away from delivery for one part, and then I shot the other part just two days out,” she said. “Even down to literally being in labor having to give approvals for the song to make the deadlines—it was just an incredible experience that I will forever cherish.”
“Rooted” follows Ciara’s 2019 single “Melanin,” featuring Dean, hip hop duo City Girls, actress Lupita Nyong’o and rapper Lala. Last year, she also released her seventh studio album, Beauty Marks.
