Earlier this week, Blood Orange (aka Dev Hynes) performed his Negro Swan standout “Charcoal Baby,” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Performing against a neon pink backdrop, the British singer-songwriter brought out his full band, two backup singers and a couple of friends to groove with him on stage. The performance was chilled-out and simple: Hynes led the group on his electric guitar while everyone else swayed to the jazz-inflected R&B melody. At one point, his bandmate even broke into an impressive flute solo.
Aside from his performance on Fallon this week, Hynes also dropped a remix for the album track, “Smoke.” The rework, which features Ian Isiah and Yves Tumor, pays tribute to Hynes’ late friend and rapper Mac Miller.
