August Alsina’s new song addresses Jada Pinkett Smith relationship

“Entanglements” also features Rick Ross.

August Alsina has released “Entanglements,” featuring Rick Ross, a new song that addresses his former relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith.

The song seems to be titled after Smith’s headline-making revelation that she had a romantic relationship with Alsina, which she dubbed an “entanglement” during a Red Table Talk episode with her husband Will Smith.

On the song, Alsina reclaims the term and defines it for himself. “The definition of entanglement / It’s when you’re tangled in the sheets / Girl, I know that we don’t call it a relationship / But you’re still fuckin’ with me,” he croons.

Later in the song, Ross makes several nods to Smith, including a reference to her famous friendship with late rapper Tupac Shakur: “Livin’ like there’s no tomorrow, met your boy with open arms / Tell you all my darkest stories, promise that you won’t depart / Keys to over 40 cars, left me with a broken heart / Still I gotta get around, favorite artist was Tupac.”

“Entanglements” is Alsina’s first release since his third studio album, The Product III: stateofEMERGEncy, which arrived last month. The LP included the songs “Deliver Us” and “Sincerely.”
