Anderson .Paak’s band Free Nationals share vibey new song

“Beauty & Essex” features Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Daniel Caesar.

Last week, Anderson .Paak dropped his KDot-assisted track, “Tint.” But today, the hip hop star has taken a back seat to let the Free Nationals (his backing band on Venice and Malibu) step into the limelight with their debut single, “Beauty & Essex.”

Teaming up with psych-rockers Unknown Mortal Orchestra and R&B crooner Daniel Caesar on vocals, the quartet’s first offering is a seductive blend of R&B and funk—a song that could easily fit right into Caesar’s Freudian. “Just lookin’ for affection, add a piece to my collection / And maybe who knows, let’s see where this goes,” the Canadian croons on the pre-chorus.

Aside from UMO and Caesar, the Free Nationals’ self-titled album will also boast guest spots from Syd, Kali Uchis, Chronixx and the late Mac Miller. Free Nationals is set to arrive sometime later this year.
