Alicia Keys has finally shared her semi-eponymous seventh album, ALICIA, after an aborted release in March and an extensive run of powerful singles released over the last year.
ALICIA follows the publication of Keys’ semi-autobiographical book More Myself earlier this year. Though intimate, the record packs in a handful of Keys’ trusted collaborators including the singer’s husband-producer Swizz Beatz, Ed Sheeran, Khalid, Miguel, OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, Jill Scott and Snoh Aalegra.
ALICIA finds the veteran singer in a place where she’s secure with her personal and musical identity. “For so long, I was trying to figure out who I was,” Keys recently told Stereogum. “So that’s been one of the highlights for me, over these three or four years, just coming into a place of not feeling like I have to get permission to be what I want to be. You can take it or leave it, and that’s okay with me. ’Cause it’s more important for me to be fulfilled.”
