New York musician Yohuna—real name Johanne Swanson—has dropped a MV for “Dead to Me,” featuring friend and fellow singer Emily Yacina.
The video’s narrative pits the two artists against each other: Jealousy and envy get the best of Yacina, who poisons Swanson. Yacina then steals Swanson’s latest song, “Dead to Me,” and is soon catapulted to fame because of it. She travels and performs for adoring fans around the world, but her past comes back to haunt her in a shocking twist ending that you’ll have to see for yourself.
“The song is pretty intense, about cutting someone you’ve loved out of your life,” Swanson said in a statement. “Strength to the people-pleasers and codependents cutting people that feed off that energy out of your lives. That’s hard. File them away into the ‘Dead to Me’ folder of your heart and go easy on yourself!”
“Dead to Me” is Swanson’s latest single, following “Rain & Prairie Snow” which also featured Yacina. The two tracks are included on Swanson’s forthcoming sophomore album, Mirroring, due out June 7.
