Slayyyter has returned with another preview of her upcoming album: “Clouds.”
The upbeat dance-pop track got a music video directed by Munachi Osegbu. The clip opens with the singer floating among a bunch of, well, clouds before she holds a tea party with her friends in a pastel-colored room.
The vibrant theme of the visual is a stark contrast to its darker lyrics: “I’m unhappier than I’ve ever been / I never thought I’d know what it’s like to win / Say what you want but I never thought I’d end up here / Some days I feel good then I really wanna disappear / I always got clouds over me / I always got clouds over me.”
Slayyyter shed light on the recording of “Clouds” on Twitter. She said, “I remember getting the demo beat for clouds from nicopop during earlyyy quarantine and writing it so fast. I felt so depressed and like I didn’t belong in music. Recorded 90% of the vocals myself in my airbnb and I think it is one of my favorites off the album.”
“Clouds” follows the release of Troubled Paradise’s title track earlier this year. In 2019, Slayyyter released her self-titled mixtape that included songs such as her breakthrough hit “Mine,” “Candy,” “Cha Ching” and collaborations with Ayesha Erotica and That Kid.
Troubled Paradise is due for release on June 11. While you wait, watch the video for “Clouds” here:
