Normani brought her A-game to the musical segment of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in a performance of her latest single, “Waves,” featuring 6LACK.
The Fifth Harmony singer brought the sultry song to life onstage with the help of backup dancers and a guest verse from 6LACK. Enveloped in blue smoke, the 22-year-old crooned about an internal battle in a troubled relationship. “First I blame you, then I want you / Fucking hate you, then I love you,” she sang.
Her performance was met with massive praise on social media. The Roots drummer, Questlove put her performance in especially high regard:
after some 2000 summed odd episodes of Late Night/Tonight I’ll say that @Normani’s performance on #FallonTonight was one of the most impressive performance debuts I’ve seen in the history of the show. Extremely impressed. ??????????

“Waves” is Normani’s first single off her upcoming untitled debut album. She previously worked with Calvin Harris on the succinct Calvin Harris X Normani project, and Sam Smith on “Dancing with a Stranger.”
