Ever wondered what Ed Sheeran, Kendrick Lamar or Usher would sound like if they were musicians from other genres? Neither have we—but Ariana Grande and Jimmy Fallon yesterday proved that they’d still sound pretty damn good.
In the latest episode of “Musical Genre Challenge” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the pair took turns to dish out covers of the latest hits, but in (frankly) unimaginable styles. Take King Kenny’s “Humble,” for example: Ari channeled her best impression of Amy Lee to deliver a goth rock twist on the rap track.
And Fallon wasn’t to be outdone, too. He transformed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” into a skanking ska tune and Usher’s “Yeah!” into a raspy Johnny Cash dirge.
The whole affair was topped off by Ari’s TV debut of her latest hit single, “No Tears Left to Cry.” It all proves that Grande’s star will only rise higher. And if it doesn’t—then she’s always got Sheeran, Lamar and Usher covers to lean back on.
