In keeping with the British group’s usual lyrical themes, the song is an empowering ode to independence after break-ups. “You’re missin’ me / But I’m finally free / I got what I need / So let it rain down like confetti,” Jade Thirlwall sings on top of bouncy, club-ready production.
The remix was accompanied by a raucous music video that finds Perrie Edwards, Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock in an epic dance-off in the club with male, bearded versions of themselves — named Pez, J-Dog and Lenny respectively. Their male counterparts share awkward conversations at the urinal, after Pez accidentally collides into a neighboring table, occupied by Drag Race UK contestants Bimini Bon Boulash, A’Whora and Tayce.
For her part, a neon-illuminated Saweetie appears on a street corner rocking a leopard-print skirt, delivering her confident verses with swagger. “I don’t play that shit beat his ass on / Ride or die on go-go, n***a, I’m a Yoko Ono / I’m an artsy bitch, you’re gonna miss these lips / Now I’mma have to slap yours with my Swarovski tips,” she raps.
The remix is Little Mix’s first as a trio ever since the departure of Jesy Nelson last December due to mental health issues. “Confetti” was originally released as the title track of their 2020 album, which also featured the singles “Break Up Song,” “Holiday,” and the hit song, “Sweet Melody.”
In other news, Saweetie dropped her new EP, Pretty Summer Playlist: Season 1, last month. The rapper also teamed up with Doja Cat on “Best Friend,” which later received an additional verse from British MC Stefflon Don. She will be releasing her debut album, Pretty Bitch Music, later in the year.
