Watch Sam Smith cover Coldplay’s “Fix You”

A stirring rendition of the 2005 classic.

Sam Smith has released an emotional live cover of Coldplay’s 2005 hit, “Fix You.”

Smith released a studio version of the stripped-down cover which they had first performed on the iHeartRadio Living Room Series back in May. “I love this song, and as soon as I heard it I was just reminded again of how much of a classic it is,” the English singer said of “Fix You” then. Smith also recently thanked Coldplay on Twitter “for writing such a beautiful song.”

In April, Smith released “I’m Ready,” a song featuring Demi Lovato. The track is the lead single off Smith’s upcoming album, which was initially titled To Die For and set for a May release.

However, in April Smith announced they would rename their record and push its release back. “My album had the word ‘die’ in the title, which I just felt really uncomfortable with, with what’s happening [the coronavirus pandemic],” they said in a BBC interview. “It’s so important to me to be sensitive to my fans and to people listening to my music.”
