Sam Smith and Nigerian singer Burna Boy have teamed up for a brand-new song, “My Oasis.”
On the track, the duo make a bold declaration of the overflowing love they have for a significant other, even though it may be unrequited. “You play with my emotions / I’m flowin’ like the ocean / I pray for your devotion / ’Cause there’s nothing I can do when it comes to you,” Smith sings.
Burna Boy jumps in during the second half of the song to echo the sentiment: “Wait a minute, tell me why you’re movin’ like that / Na, you wey I choose, but you make it so hard / I gave you my heart, you’re makin’ it so dark / But there’s nothing I can do when it comes to you.”
“This track has been a beautiful release of emotions for me during this time,” Smith said in a statement. “I’ve been a fan of Burna Boy for years now and am so happy to have a tune with him.”
“My Oasis” is the latest preview of Smith’s upcoming album, following the Demi Lovato-assisted “I’m Ready.” The track was slated to be the lead single off their new LP, initially titled To Die For, and was set for a May release. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Smith had announced they would rename the record and push back its release. No further updates on the project have been shared since.
Prior to this, Smith dropped two EPs titled DANCE and HEARTBREAK, which featured previously released songs like “Dancing With a Stranger” with Normani and “Omen” with Disclosure. Last month, the singer also shared a stirring cover of Coldplay’s “Fix You.”
