Australian pop singer Ruel has announced his second EP, Bright Lights, Red Eyes, with its lead single “As Long As You Care.”
In an interview with triple j, Ruel said that the songs on his upcoming project were written last year while he was traveling through Paris. “It’s the most mature you’ve ever heard me and it was me, in that moment in time,” he said. The singer also confirmed that Bright Lights, Red Eyes will be a prequel to his highly anticipated debut album.
The EP’s first track, “As Long As You Care,” was accompanied by a retro-inspired visual directed by Jeremy Koren. In it, Ruel is stuck on an island and spends most of his days carrying out mundane chores like washing the dishes and cleaning pools.
He secretly dreams of being a rockstar and later invents his own version of Zoom to connect with other musicians. It’s a cheeky play on the current pandemic situation, where everyone’s stuck indoors and isolated from the rest of the world.
Out October 23, Bright Lights, Red Eyes will be a follow-up to Ruel’s 2019 debut EP Free Time, which included hits like “Painkiller” and “Hard Sometimes.” Earlier this year, he teamed up with fellow Aussies Cosmo’s Midnight for “Down for You.”
