Phoenix dedicate new song “Identical” to Philippe Zdar

The track will appear in Sofia Coppola’s film ‘On the Rocks.’

Phoenix have shared “Identical,” a new song that will feature in Sofia Coppola’s upcoming film On the Rocks.

The new indie-pop cut marks the band’s fifth collaboration with Coppola, who is married to Phoenix’s frontman Thomas Mars. The French band took the sonic lead for On the Rocks by writing the score and curating its soundtrack.

“Identical” arrived with a vertical music video shot by the director’s brother, Roman Coppola, capturing a shiny Phoenix-branded shirt slowly going up in flames. The clip ends with a dedication to late French producer and Cassius member Philippe Zdar, who worked with Phoenix on their breakthrough 2009 album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. Zdar died in a tragic fall last June.

Phoenix have been relatively quiet since releasing their 2017 album Ti Amo, though they did release the song “Monologue” for Record Store Day 2018.
