Olivia Rodrigo reminiscences on a past relationship on “Deja Vu”

The highly anticipated follow-up to “Drivers License” is here.

Olivia Rodrigo has returned with her second single of the year, “Deja Vu.”

The song is the highly anticipated follow-up to her debut smash hit “Drivers License,” which was also produced by As Tall as Lions member Dan Nigro. On “Deja Vu,” Rodrigo continues the narrative of her heartbreaking first single as she tries to move on from her ex-partner. “So when you gonna tell her that we did that, too? / She thinks it’s special, but it’s all reused,” she cries over a fuzzy indie-pop melody.

“I’m sort of obsessed with the concept of déjà vu,” Rodrigo told Zane Lowe in an interview for Apple Music. “I thought it would be a cool play on words to kind of use déjà vu as a metaphor for like how when you break up with someone and they get with somebody else and you see them kind of living the life that you lived with them.”

“Deja Vu” will appear alongside “Drivers License” and nine other songs on Rodrigo’s upcoming debut album, out May 21. The song also dropped with an accompanying music video, directed by Allie Avital, which stars actress Talia Ryder as Rodrigo’s doppelgänger.
