Norah Jones finds solace in ‘Begin Again’

Impromptu tracks pack Jones’ new album.

Norah Jones has returned with Begin Again, a formal collection of her six singles released between 2018 and 2019, as well as the previously unreleased title track.

From the brooding introduction of “My Heart is Full” to the titular “Begin Again,” which recalls her 2002 debut Come Away With Me, the singer flirts with jazz eccentricities and pop sensibilities without losing any emotional depth on the new record. Album closer “Just a Little Bit” ruminates on the album’s sonic palette, with sparse keystrokes, breathy saxophone and a tight rhythm section.

“I felt inspired to record and try different things,” Jones explained to Rolling Stone about the recording process. “[They were] quick and fun and easy and low-pressure. It’s a great way to collaborate with other people. Just a day or three in the studio and that’s it.”
