Miley Cyrus seals her rock star rep with new album ‘Plastic Hearts’

The pop star once again demonstrates she’s full of surprises.

Miley Cyrus’ long-awaited comeback album, Plastic Hearts, is finally here.

On the star-studded 12-track album, Cyrus expertly bridges her pop sensibilities with punk-rock and country influences. It opens strong with the fiery “WTF Do I Know,” combining roaring guitars with Miley’s potent pop-rock growl. “Bad Karma” and ’80s-disco-inspired “Night Crawling” feature two rock icons: Joan Jett and Billy Idol respectively. The LP also includes previously released singles “Prisoner,” featuring Dua Lipa, and the jubilant “Midnight Sky” which she recently reworked with Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks.

The latest LP shows Cyrus coming into her own as one of pop’s most versatile artists, and follows the release of 2017 album Younger Now and her 2019 EP She is Coming. She also previously starred in an episode of sci-fi series Black Mirror as a cookie-cutter pop star who forges into increasingly unhinged musical territory against the wishes of her managers. It’s not hard to see the parallels between the character and Cyrus’ personal journey, but while the former ends in tragedy, it seems like Cyrus is only just getting started.
