Lykke Li shares two new tunes, announces fourth album

If the pair of singles is anything to go by, her upcoming record, ‘So Sad So Sexy,’ will be a sprightly mix of Swedish pop and alt-R&B.

Four long years after she released I Never Learn, Lykke Li is back with a trio of announcements. Her new record, So Sad So Sexy, will arrive on June 8, and to hype it up, the Swedish pop sensation yesterday shared two singles off it, “Hard Rain” and “Deep End.”

Both tunes are glossy, high-def productions that bring together dance-y Swedish pop and the kind of downtempo, late-night alt-R&B made famous by artists such as The Weeknd. “Hard Rain,” produced by Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij, is the trendier of the two, with Li’s dulcet voice alternately warped, pitched-down and vocoder-fied. If robots had souls and could sing, this is what they’d sound like.
