Lizzo pays tribute to ‘Sister Act 2’ during MTV Movie & TV Awards

Watch her funky performance of “Juice” here.

Last night, Lizzo brought her breakout single “Juice” to the stage of the 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards and paid tribute to one of her favorite films, Whoopi Goldberg’s Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit.

The pop star recreated the movie’s inspiring climax, casting herself as a young Lauryn Hill. The homage kicked into high gear when her backup dancers joined her on stage, looking retro in ’90s-inspired outfits. Lizzo toned things down for a brief moment during the breakdown, taking a melodic refrain from Sister Act 2’s “Oh Happy Day,” before ending the performance on a high note.

“Juice” the lead single of Lizzo’s first major label album, Cuz I Love You, which dropped in April. The full-length includes songs like the grand soul ballad “Cuz I Love You” and the Missy Elliott-assisted “Tempo.”
