Little Mix return with ’80s throwback song, “Break Up Song”

“It’s a very feel-good kind of empowerment song.”

Little Mix have unveiled their latest single, “Break Up Song,” the first taste of their forthcoming sixth studio album.

The girl group co-wrote the ’80s-inspired synth pop tune alongside Kamille, Frank Nobel and Linus Nordstrom. “So tonight, I’ll sing another, another break-up song / So turn it up, let it play on, and on, and on, and on / For all of the times they screwed us over / Let it play on, and on, and on, just another break-up song,” they harmonize on the chorus.

“I think everyone goes through a break-up and it’s a very feel-good kind of empowerment song about going out and just forgetting about all your woes and troubles,” member Jade Thirlwall told Kiss FM. “It’s just another break-up song and you’ll get over it and you’ll be good.”

“Break Up Song” kicks off Little Mix’s “new era,” which they previewed with a short teaser on YouTube last week. The song is also the band’s third-ever release on RCA Records, following “Bounce Back” and “One I’ve Been Missing,” after departing longtime label Syco Music in 2018.
