It’s been a hot minute since we last heard from Zara Larsson—but the Swedish pop star is back with “Ruin My Life,” which dropped yesterday.
On the new single, Larsson laments a lost love: “You set fire to my world, couldn’t handle the heat / Now I’m sleeping alone and I’m starting to freeze.” But the song isn’t simply just about heartbreak. In an interview with Pop Justice, the singer explained that “Ruin My Life” details an unhealthy relationship and the struggle to let it go. “I’ve been there,” she said. “You just know this person is really bad for you, but you can’t help wanting to go back.”
The lead single from her forthcoming third album, “Ruin My Life” features the same type of sugar-coated pop production that made hits of “Lush Life” and “Never Forget You.” It may not be as upbeat, but it’s still an instant earworm.
Last week, Larsson teased on Instagram that a video for “Ruin My Life” is in the works. So keep your eyes peeled.
